Delbrae Delivers Again

Like a good red wine Delbrae (Thunder Gulch-We Leica) just gets better with age. Saturdays win in the Listed Christchurch Casino Spring Classic over 2000m was the seven-year-olds 10th win and his third stakes success, pushing his prizemoney total to just shy of $400,000. This class performer heads to Trentham on the 27th October for the Group One WFA Captain Cook Stakes at 1600m. Bruce Perry Bloodstock on behalf of LA, purchased We Leica in foal to Bradburys Luck at this years Sydney Easter Broodmare Sale. We Leica remains in Australia, where after foaling down to Bradbury's Luck, she'll visit Stratum.

The final day of the Kelt Capital Spring Carnival witnessed another fine performance from Kay's Awake (Towkay-Wake Up Suzie) when second in the Listed Kelt Memorial 1400m. Last season's dual Group One placed mare was once again slow away before storming home for a head second to Dezigna. If trainer Peter McKay can eradicate the mare's penchant for departing the gates slowly, she can surely land a big sprint this season.

Alamosa's (O'Reilly-Lodore Mystic) success in the Group Two Hawkes Bay Guineas certainly had the crew at LA smiling on Saturday afternoon, for the stud own Cent From Heaven a full sister to Lodore Mystic and herself a group winning producing dam in the shape of the LA owned Eloa. Cent From Heaven is due to foal to Pins this season and Eloa recently delivered a striking filly by Golden Slipper winner Stratum.

Unfortunately the LA bred Pachanga (Redoubts Choice-Foxtrot) was scratched from her debut in Saturdays Listed two-year-old race at Flemington. The top priced filly from this years Karaka Yearling Sales at $700,000, will likely be kept for races during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

At Karaka this summer, LA sells a lovely O'Reilly yearling colt from the Zabeel mare Zalass on behalf of Te Paarae Trust. The colt's family has had a particularly good trot the last week with One Love (Danasinga-Jackie O) winning at Riccarton and Sleepy Jean (Faltaat-Daydream) scoring at Avondale. Daydream is a Centaine half sister to Zalass whilst Jackie O descends from the same family, back to the Oncidium mare Sanderae.

There's still opportunities to book a mare to Towkay (service fee $10,000 plus GST); New Zealand's best value sire in the $5,500 to $15,000 service range as afforded by thoroughbrednews.co.nz Ring Sam now on 0274 853400.

Buzz’s crazy ads, but on a slightly more serious note, how the family have continued to produce sound, genuine and class performers is testimony to the family and their staffs dedication and horsemanship.
