Excellent Black Type Day for LA Sires

Sunday, 11 November 2018 07:09

Two stakes victories for Per Incanto and a classic placing for Nadeem were the domestic Saturday highlights while across the Tasman, more Group 1 spoils went the way of the Dubawi sireline.

Few horses racing in NZ possess the finishing speed of Casaquinman (Per Incanto-Puan Silk by Towkay) so hopes were justifiably high for the 6YO’s stakes debut in the Listed (1000m) Pegasus Stakes Handicap at Riccarton. Reeling off a 33.16 last 600m on the soft track, the Woodville trained galloper came from his customary dead last position on the home turn to give Per Incanto his 12th individual stakes winner.

And making Casaquinman’s victory even more special is that he’s a descendant of the famed Te Parae blue hen mare Sunbride.

Meanwhile, further north at Te Rapa, the LA bred and Trelawney, Taylor and Malcolm raced Indecision (Per Incanto-Yeah Nah by Kinjite) led all the way to comfortably win the Listed (1200m) Legacy Lodge Sprint.

The stakes winning colt Sir Nate (Nadeem-Just Diamonds by No Excuse Needed) gave Nadeem his second classic place getter when he finished third, beaten a nose for second, in the Group 1 (1600m) NZ 2000 Guineas at Riccarton. Back in 2011, the Nadeem filly Sharnee Rose ran third in the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.

Benbatl’s (Dubawi- Nahrain by Selkirk) performances at the Melbourne Spring Carnival have spotlighted the power of the Dubawi sire line and Trap for Fools (Poet’s Voice- Old Money by Old Spice) intensified that focus with his win in the feature event on the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the Group 1 (2000m) $2 million MacKinnon Stakes.

A son of Dubawi, the sadly prematurely deceased Poet’s Voice has enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2018, headed by his dual English Group 1 winning son Poet’s Word.
