Feedback Positive On Pachanga's Debut

Wednesday, 24 October 2007 14:55

We are still on a high after Pachanga's (Redoubts Choice-Foxtrot) wonderful debut effort for second in the Listed Debutants Stakes at Caulfield. Lee Freedman, trainer of the winner Sugar Babe - herself an expensive yearling purchase at $500,000 - when interviewed post race, commented, It was quite a good effort. I know David (Hayes) has a rap on the second one. I know it's one of his best two-year-olds. I think the form will be valuable out of it.

That's encouraging feedback for the top priced filly at Karaka earlier this year. Mum Foxtrot recently delivered a Pins colt, whom you can see a picture of above. Her Savabeel colt going to Karaka this summer was always going to generate plenty of interest but that should be heightened, particularly if his half sister can produce more performances like last Wednesday.

Saturday saw Kay's Awake (Towkay-Wake Up Suzie) register yet another stakes performance when second in the Listed WFA Lion Red Plate over 1200m at Rotorua.

Dash (Towkay-I'm Tess) ran second again in Hong Kong on Sunday evening. He took a little while to find his best form last season but from an Oregon mare, looks the type to keep improving now as a four-year-old.

Congratulations to the Chittick's and their marvellous stallion O'Reilly, sire of Caulfield Cup winner Master O'Reilly. A tad under-rated throughout his siring career, the son of Last Tycoon (as is Towkay) just needed that big race winner in Australia to join the elite level of stallions. LA have used O'Reilly consistently throughout his stud career, breeding such notable performers as leading Hong Kong galloper Cheeky (O'Reilly-Sound Lover) and O'Reilly Rally (O'Reilly-Rivertaine), currently one of the more promising gallopers in Hong Kong. Speaking of Rivertaine, the Pins colt we retained out of the mare, and subsequently racing as Yee Ha, ran a really nice second to exciting filly Anna Bek at Hawera the week before last. We had heard he wasn't that forward for his resumption, so he's one to keep an eye out for when he next appears.

Included in our draft for Karaka 2008 are an O'Reilly full sister to Lorraine Jamison's very good race-mare Ciara and on behalf of Te Parae, a strongly made O'Reilly colt from the Zabeel mare Zalass.

Mares here at LA who have foaled to O'Reilly already this season, include the English-bred Swain mare Tycoon Lover (filly) and the Prized mare Jabeske (colt). Tycoon Lover was a purchased by Bruce Perry Bloodstock for David and Victoria Duncan and Jabeske, another purchased by B.Perry Bloodstock, is a mare owned by our new client John Gilbert.. Jabeske's foal is actually a three-quarter sister to promising Central Districts mare Zilt and is in foal to Towkay.

We couldn't go this week without acknowledging the effort of Danny O'Brien in training the quinella in the Caulfield Cup. He was quick to acknowledge his staff in emotional post race interviews on Saturday, which typifies the sort of person he is. Hopefully Danny can work the oracle with the likes of The Fonz and a two-year-old filly we shall be sending him after Xmas, named Bellabaci (Zabeel-Sound Lover).

A family operation and success over many years, plus a location in a beautiful, under rated part of the country.
