Five Black Type Performers for Per Incanto in Last Fortnight

Sunday, 26 January 2020 16:35

A new stakes performer and more black-type for two established performers were amongst a Saturday of highlights for Per Incanto; on a day’s racing which also supplied him with winners at Trentham and Riccarton.

Short Fuse (Per Incanto-Only Explosive by One Cool Cat) produced a sub 33 second 600 coming from last to run a close third in the Group 3 1200m Concorde Handicap at Ellerslie, the super consistent mare’s first and well deserved black-type performance.

Molto Veloce’s second placing in the Concorde added further interest to her half-sister by Per Incanto who is offered by LA as LOT 905 during the Book 2 session of the NZB National Yearling Sale which gets underway at Karaka on Sunday.

Leading Australian owners OTI Racing certainly knew what they were doing when they purchased Hasstobegood (Per Incanto-Don’t Dilly Dally by Howbaddouwantit) recently. The Roger James and Robert Wellwood trained filly was an outstanding third to the high-class Probabeel in a terrific renewal of the Karaka Million Three-Year-Old Classic.

At Riccarton, Belle Fascino (Per Incanto-Playing For Keeps by Keeper) added further black-type to her record with a third placing in the Listed Timaru Stakes while the LA bred Devious (Per Incanto-Angel Del Dinero by My Halo) scored an impressive win in the R65 1400m.

Saturday’s black-type trifecta follows Cutting Up Rough’s (Per Incanto-Lutine Belle by O’Reilly) second in the Group 3 Anniversary Handicap and Lightning Jack’s (Per Incanto-La Petite by Savabeel) win in the Listed Gore Guineas over the last fortnight. Per Incanto is represented by 33 yearlings at the NZB National Yearling Sales.

Fibonacci’s (Per Incanto-Da Vinci Code by Danasinga) love affair with the Wellington Cup Carnival continued when the LA and Stephen Mercer bred sprinter led all the way to take the R82 1000m, his third success at Trentham’s showpiece.
