LA Bred Mare Lands Australian Black-Type

Improving mare Excessabeel (Savabeel-Royal Excess by Exceed and Excel) gained important black-type for her eventual broodmare career with a second placing in the (2040m) Listed Birthday Cup at Morptheville in Adelaide on Saturday.

Purchased by trainer Matt Laurie from LA’s 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale draft, the five-year-old mare’s racing career still looks to have plenty of upside with Saturday’s stakes placing coming in her first attempt at pattern company. Additionally all of her six career wins have come in the last ten months.

LA sold a half sister to Excessabeel by Ocean Park to Mitchell Freedman and Phil Cataldo at Karaka Book 1 last month.

Meanwhile closer to home Per Incanto looks to have unearthed another couple of smart male performers, both ironically chestnuts.

Friday at Wanganui saw a classy winning debut by the LA bred three-year-old Arturo (Per Incanto-Foxtrot by Rory’s Jester) while at Ellerslie on Saturday, the Stuart and Cherie Hope bred and owned Monaco (Per Incanto-Monarch by Volksraad), a full brother to their Group 1 winner Santa Monica, made it consecutive wins with an authoritative performance over 1200m.
