LA Stallions Shine at Hastings & Riccarton

Per Incanto and Nadeem were prominent at the two major domestic meetings on Saturday, a feature of which were encouraging first up performances from two lightly raced 4YO's both targeting the Group 2 Couplands Mile on 10 November.

Second to the subsequent Queensland Oaks place getter Signora Nera on debut last November, the Lisa Latta trained Nod of the Head (Per Incanto-Can’t Keeper Down by Keeper), whose dam ran second in the New Zealand Oaks, sat just off the leaders on Saturday before bursting clear turning from home, racing away to win the R65 1300m by nearly four lengths, the most comprehensive win on the Premier day card at Hastings

Wild Moose (Nadeem-Barrelfiftyone by Savabeel) who defeated Oaks winner Amarelinha on debut last season before closing off his four start 3YO campaign with a third placing in the Group 1 Devan Plastics Levin Stakes to the Per Incanto filly Bonham, looks certain to derive plenty of benefit from his second placing in the R74 Benchmark 1400m at Hastings after doing plenty of work to get to the front before surrendering the lead late.

At Riccarton on Saturday the Sam Trotter bred and owned 4YO Kick Start (Per Incanto- Kick Back by Al Akbar) recorded his second success in six career starts when he carried top weight of 59kgs to win the $30,000 R65 1600m.

Also at Hastings, last season’s stakes placed filly Alcemhia (Per Incanto-Amonmarie by O’Reilly) overcame a wide draw to finish a gallant second in the Remember Jooky 1200m. Trained and part owned by Simon and Katrina Alexander, the 4YO mare was endeavouring to give the husband and wife team a memorable win in the race named after their son Jackson who sadly succumbed to melanoma in 2019 at just 22.
