LA Update 4th June 2007

Thursday, 07 June 2007 14:30

Last Thursday at Awapuni saw a well deserved win for Towkrite (Towkay – Kimberlite). Off the scene for nearly two years the full brother to Towzan has taken a little while to build to full fitness but the authority of last weeks victory suggests at least another win is in store before the winter tracks arrive.

Keeping with the stock of TowkayLandau (Hyapatia Lee) won in Singapore over 1600m on Saturday and Prime Target (Lady of the Lake) ran second over 1650m in Hong Kong on Sunday.

Zingara (Zabeel – Spottswoode), a gutsy fourth in Saturdays Group One Queensland Oaks hails from the family of the LA owned broodmare Rivertaine – dam of Group One placed Regency Horse and recent impressive Hong Kong winner O’Reilly Rally. Be watching for Regency Horse in the 1400m Group Three feature race on Sunday night in Hong Kong, This is also the very successful Waikato Stud family of Classic winners Legs and Guyno.

Eagle Farm on Saturday was also privy to another top performance by Pentathon helping the value of further progeny of the broodmare Shahiid - a full sister to John Wheelers top stayer - owned by LA in conjunction with Richard and Sarah Greaves of Masterton.

Sunday on the Sunshine Coast saw Napper Tandy (Cullen – Mayfair) rewarded for consistency, when scoring over 1400m in the hands of Leith Innes. Mayfair is a half sister to Soneri, who happens to be the dam of ‘Charlie’ the weanling No Excuse Needed colt we are featuring in our monthly updates.

Intermittent’s
(Bahhare – Donna’s Habit) impressive win over 1600m at Foxton on Monday reminded one of his similar run to win on Kelt Capital Stakes Day last season. Niggling problems have conspired to limit his career to just 10 starts but he looks just the type to pull off a nice race next season. LA own Madonna Bay, a half sister to both Intermittent and 2005 Group One Railway Handicap winner Recurring. Still a relatively young broodmare, Madonna Bay produced an Elusive City colt which we sold at the Karaka Premier Yearling Sales earlier this year for $100,000.Unfortunatly Madonna Bay was put down after a floating incident in Australia last year.

The interestingly named Kuda Bintang (Zabeel – So Like Lae), third at the Gold Coast on Sunday over 1400m is a full brother to the LA bred and owned Caulfield Cup runner-up Laebeel; Currently residing proudly in a lush paddock at LA, we eagerly await her successfully foaling to Pins later this year. Trained by John Collins, Kuda Bintang certainly looks a type to watch given his breeding and the trainer’s good record of producing staying talent through Queensland winter campaigns.

Still some leased shares remain in our Keeper – Ashley Downs yearling filly. Don’t miss out on some fun racing this filly, ring Sam now on 0274 853400 for more details or to take a share.   We look forward to bringing you more LA racing and breeding news next week.

Professionalism, attention to detail and a warm smile
