Per Incanto 2YO Impressive on Debut

Sunday, 24 October 2021 07:02

Pukekohe trainer Steve Cole and the owners of his impressive Matamata 2YO debut winner Mascarinto (Per Incanto – Black Mascara by Don Eduardo) have some serious thinking to do this week.

Finding the front shortly after the start, Mascarinto proceeded to make the $30,000 race a procession, slipping clear shortly after turning for home, then coasting to the line to win as he liked by nearly seven lengths. The striking looking near black colt was as impressive on the clock as he was on the eye, running the 1000m in 57.82.

Cole said he’d been inundated with sale enquiries after the win but that he would take his time to discuss with his father David and co-owner Murray Notman, before any decisions about the immediate future for the horse were made.

Mascarinto is the second foal of the stakes performed sprinting mare Black Mascara. Co bred by Haunui Farm, the colt was bought by Cole for $120,000 from Haunui’s 2021 Karaka Book 1 draft.

Last seasons Hong Kong premiership winning stallion for winners, and currently their leading sire for stake money and winners, Per Incanto has 16 entries for the NZB Ready to Run Sale at Karaka on 17&18 November.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to all the team at Little Avondale for doing another amazing job looking after my mare and bringing her precious foal safely into the world. Always such a relief knowing they will have the best of care with you!
