Per Incanto Australian Treble

Thursday, 05 September 2019 02:26

Per Incanto, NZ’s #2 Sire at Stud, has risen to the upper echelon of NZ sires the hard way and if the winning treble in Australia on Tuesday is any indication, the son of Street Cry is on the way to a new level of performance as the progeny of his better credentialed mares begin to get to the track.

Bred and raced by Shadwell Stud and trained by Hayes and Dabernig, 3YO filly Maktabba (Per Incanto- Maraaseem by Redoute’s Choice) franked the form of her two juvenile starts behind Yes Yes Yes and Group 1 Champagne Stakes place getter Lady Lupino with a seven length Ballarat win on Thursday. Maktabba holds nominations for the Golden Rose and 1000 Guineas.

An hour or two later, further north at Newcastle, the Team Hawkes trained 3YO Peak (Per Incanto-A Chance To Dream by Volksraad) won over 900m in sub 52 seconds at Newcastle. Peak, bred by JML Bloodstock and LA, was a $150,000 purchase by Hawkes Racing from the Sledmere draft at the 2018 Magic Millions

Peak’s win was part of a back to back winning double at Newcastle for Per Incanto after Kedah (Per Incanto-Malaya by Towkay),  finished strongly with 59.5kgs to register her fourth win in just eight career starts for trainer Kris Lees.

Coming on the back of Group 1 winner Shadows Cast’s outstanding fresh-up performance in the Group 1 Tarzino Trophy on Saturday, and a wealth of other exciting talent set to resume in the next few weeks, the spring of 2019 is shaping-up to be one hell of a season for Per Incanto.

History, tradition, family, good values and lots of fun. Also when we inspect an LA yearling we do so with confidence in the horses’ upbringing, soundness and temperament. It’s a theory that has worked well because with Dominic we’ve bought the likes of Redeem The Dream and the stakeswinner Sir Lovesalot
