Sensational Dubawi

Saturday, 13 October 2018 21:50

During another spectacular week of highs in the Northern Hemisphere, culminating in his 38th individual Group 1 winner, sire phenomenon Dubawi gave downunder racegoers a glimpse of his siring power on Saturday when his two Caulfield runners took Group 1 and Group 2 spoils.

Already a Group 1 winner in Germany and Dubai, Benbatl (Dubawi-Nahrain by Selkirk), the second highest rated international horse to ever set foot on an Australasian racetrack, defeated a star studded field to win the Group 1 2000m Caulfield Stakes, while earlier on the card the aptly named Ball of Muscle (Dubawi-Parfore by Gold Brose) ran his rivals ragged from in front in the Group 2 1100m Schillaci Stakes.

Midweek saw Dubawi sire the top priced yearling at 3,500,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, a price which may have even looked a little on the cheap side, especially for a Dubawi, when the yearling colts full brother, Too Darn Hot (Dubawi-Dar Re Mi by Singspiel) produced an astonishing performance to win the leading two-year-old race in Europe, the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes on Sunday morning NZ time.

Also overnight in the U.K came the announcement that Dubawi’s dual Group 1 winning grandson Poet’s Word (Poet’s Voice-Whirly Bird by Nashwan), currently the second highest rated horse on the Longine’s international ratings behind Winx, has been retired to stud.

Dual Group 2 and 3 winner Time Test (Dubawi-Passage of Time by Dansili), Dubawi’s only sire son in N.Z, is standing his first season at LA at a service fee of $10,000 plus GST.
