Stakes Success For Per Incanto

Tuesday, 24 February 2015 19:00

Only a nose may have come between Per Incanto (Street Cry-Pappa Reale by Indian Ridge) and a notable stakes double at Matamata on Saturday but the Homebush Syndicate, owners of the LA reared Nahema (Per Incanto-Our Prized Rose by Prized), runner-up in the day’s feature the 1200m Group 2 J Swap Matamata Breeders Stakes, will be buoyed by a truly outstanding performance from their inexperienced filly.

Despite the challenge of backing up from a debut win just eight days earlier, Nahema powered home over the last 100m to run the narrowest of seconds in New Zealand’s feature race for two-year-old fillies.

Earlier on the Matamata programme, laid back colt Rocanto (Per Incanto-Romantic Liaisons by Danasinga) pictured left,

rocantolistedfeb2015.jpggave Per Incanto his first stakes winner when successful in the 1200m Listed Reid Harrison Matamata Slipper for two-year-old colts and geldings.

From his first crop to date Per Incanto has sired six individual winners from ten starters including three stakes performers in Rocanto, Nahema and Dal Cielo (Per Incanto-Cent From Heaven by Centaine).

Both Nahema and Rocanto were offered for sale by LA at Karaka and fetched a combined $18,500. Rocanto was bred by Dame Lowell Goddard.

Deeming (Nadeem-Aver by Bubble Gum Fellow) registered her fifth career victory when successful over 1400m in Victoria last Thursday
