Time Test (Dubawi – Passage of Time)

One of the first things to strike you when you look at Time Test’s pedigree is the number of options he presents broodmare owners.  The pre eminent sirelines of Mr Prospector and Northern Dancer are well represented but they’re sufficiently removed to build a well constructed pedigree.

Breeders with an eye to the future will have seen the impact Dubawi’s sons are beginning to make a stud. Makfi, whose oldest Japanese progeny are rising two, has 28 stakes winners and worldwide progeny earnings of nearly $30million and the exciting Night of Thunder already has two stakes winners and the best strike rate amongst first season sires in the U.K.

Dubawi, along with Galileo  the most pre-potent black-type sires in the world today, is a great grandson of Mr Prospector from an Italian Oaks winning daughter of Deploy, a grandson of Mill Reef through his Derby winning son Shirley Heights.

Time Test’s dam the Gr.1 winning 2YO Passage of Time, by the very successful Danehill stallion Dansili, is a half sister to the Gr.1 winner Timepiece (by Zamindar, a grandson of Mr Prospector). Clepsydra, the Sadlers Wells dam of the Gr.1 winning half sisters is a half sister to the dam of the multiple Gr.1 winner Twice Over (by Observatory, another grandson of Mr Prospector).

So Time Test’s female family clearly crosses well with Mr Prospector and duplicating Mr Prospector in a pedigree has proven highly successful: champion sire Tapit and Classic winner California Chrome are two examples.

Rip Van Winkle, Stravinsky, No Excuse Needed, Per Incanto, Postponed and Iffraaj are but a selection of mares offering the Mr Prospector bloodline.

Dubawi’s sons Postponed and Prince Bishop, whose combined stake earnings exceeded 12 million pounds have duplications of Mr Prospector in their 4th generation and Northern Dancer in their 5th generation while his 2015 Prix du Jockey Club winner New Bay is also 4x4 Mr Prospector and 4x5 Northern Dancer and his 2019 Dubai Sheema Classic victor Old Persian is 4X4 Mr Prospector, 5x5 Northern Dancer and 4x5 Shirley Heights.

The most pronounced genetic trait exhibited in Dubawi’s best progeny is the duplication of Never Bend, present in Dubawi through Shirley Heights and his sire Mill Reef, a son of Never Bend. Lucky Nine, Mubtaahij, Benbatl, Al Kazem, Old Persian, Night of Thunder, Arabian Queen and   sensational 2018 European Champion 2YO Too Darn Hot are all Gr.1 winners by Dubawi exhibiting this pedigree pattern.

During his short stint at Westbury Stud, Makfi (Dubawi) showed his affinity for the Never Bend nick, siring the multiple Gr.1 performer Savile Row and Australian stakes winner Raw Impulse to this pattern.

Sadlers Wells line mares have also had a lot of success with Dubawi, and the influential factor at work here is probably Fairy Bridge, Sadlers Wells dam, whose sire Bold Reason is a half brother to Never Bend. And speaking of Sadlers Wells, breeders may have noticed the increasing successful duplication and very close-up too, of the great racehorse and sire. Champion mare Enable is 2 x 3 to Sadlers Wells, Brighthill’s new stallion Eminent, 3 x 3, and 2017 English Derby runner-up Cliffs of Moher, 2 x 4.

Gr.1 winners Hunter’s Light and Monterosso are sons of Dubawi from mares by Barathea, a son of Sadlers Wells. Interestingly Hunter’s Light’s second dam is by Shirley Heights.

Daughters of the recently deceased Jakkalberry, by a grandson of Mr Prospector from a Barathea mare with strains of Shirley Heights, would make fascinating consorts for Time Test.

Time Test’s female family is also that of the great racehorse and influential stallion Damascus. Coincidentally the aforementioned Monterosso is from a mare by Saleri, a grandson of Damascus. Mares by Alamosa (also carries Mill Reef), Ocean Park, Swiss Ace, Sacred Falls and Roc De Cambes carry the Damascus bloodline.

O’Reilly line mares cross nicely with Time Test

O’Reilly line mares cross nicely with Time Test, duplicating the Never Bend bloodline and also the Damascus factor through Pompei Court. Mares with a line of Never Bend’s half brother Bold Reason, through Sadlers Wells and his son Montjeu, or via Sound Reason, should be considered.

Northern Dancers son Lyphard has also nicked well with Dubawi. Mares by stallions such as Power, Redwood and Showcasing carry lines of Lyphard, with Power and Redwood having the added attraction of lines of Shirley Heights which have gone into orbit with Dubawi.

That’s the beauty of standing a stallion such as Time Test. With his tremendous bloodlines and well constructed pedigree, he offers the discerning breeder a great opportunity to create another high-class racehorse.
